Position: UI/UX Designer for Artificial Intelligence Solutions

Knowesis has an ongoing need for a qualifiedUI/UX Designer for Artificial Intelligence Solutionsto assist the Department of Defense (DoD) Artificial Intelligence Talent 2.0 Program. These roles entail delivering outstanding support in AI, encompassing non-traditional program and technical management, various work products, administration and operations, logistics, graphics, project management, and training for both DoD agencies and the cyber community.

Candidates must possess a minimum Secret Security Clearance and be U.S. Citizens (applicants unable to provide evidence of U.S. citizenship will not be considered due to the security clearance prerequisite for this position).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Apply principles, methods, and techniques of user-based design to support the development of artificial intelligence solutions.
  • Gather and formalize Mission Initiative (MI) requirements from participating services and agencies to transform capability needs into detailed, actionable, testable requirements.
  • Work with end-users to build and analyze user stories to identify common users' system, software, and interface requirements for capability design and development.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers and other performers to create and manage a Requirements Traceability Matrix and an Intended Use Statement.

  • Identify end-user processes, software, and other mission issues that AI could improve.
  • Capture and formulate the final articulation of user needs that define the broader user experience by gathering and incorporating end-user feedback from interviews, usability tests, surveys, data analysis, and similar methods.
  • Translate/transform user research information into actionable user interface requirements and workflows.
  • Develop and maintain design wireframes and specifications.
  • Communicate screen designs, interaction models, and end-to-end experiences to the project team.

  • Develop task flows and wireframes based on user needs
  • Design and prototype specific AI or ML solutions while understanding user needs, behaviors, and motivations.
  • Work closely with Mission and Capability Delivery teams to help determine product goals and support technical activities of end-users identifying mission goals, desired metrics, data standards, and user workflows.
  • Coordinate with National Mission Initiative (NMI) teams to define and prioritize systems requests, project scope, goals, and deliverables that support end-user goals.
  • Coordinate research efforts involving the voice of the customer, qualitative and usability-oriented customer feedback, and industry trends.

  • Produce high-quality solutions through wireframes, visual designs, flow diagrams, storyboards, site maps, and prototypes.
  • Collaborate with team members on user research, customer testing, and iterative feedback loops.
  • Rapidly iterate on design prototypes and working applications that contribute to designing, developing, and testing AI/ML tools and delivery methods.
  • Develop mock-up solutions that can be implemented quickly.
  • Test and validate usability by monitoring and reporting metrics, determining potential, and leveraging research and analytics to drive product updates and improved user experience.

  • Coordinate technical requirements for capability design, emphasizing interface definition with government, commercial stakeholders, and organizations to evolve needs and establish MOU/MOAs for interfaces with existing external systems.
  • Perform work involving new concepts and ideas for achieving missions and goals, technological trends, and significant operational and mission requirements advancements.
  • Formulate overall design concepts and criteria, explore, and evaluate advanced proposals, and review and assess overall progress in development efforts.
  • Coordinate efforts of other representatives recognized as technical specialists and representatives from other government agencies and industries pursuing research and development projects involved with the assignment.
  • Convert overall objectives into development programs and policies for others to use.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in user-centered design and development of complex computer-based systems.
  • Demonstrated experience designing interfaces for artificial intelligence or machine learning solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of design tools such as Sketch, Figma, and Adobe Creative Suite and prototyping tools such as InVision or Axure.

  • Understanding design systems, user research, information architecture, interaction design, and usability testing.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience working in government or defense sectors.
  • Familiarity with UX design for big data visualization and analytics.
  • Experience with conversational interfaces and natural language processing.
  • Familiarity with software development frameworks like React, Angular, and Vue.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, Computer Science, or a related field.
