Technical Fellows make technical contributions to solve MITRE's challenging technical problems, thereby advancing national and corporate strategic interests. Technical Fellows are expected to combine technical leadership with performing high-quality, high-impact technical work, thereby leading development of work products that solve difficult challenges of our sponsors and partners and make significant contributions to mission outcomes.The MITRE Corporation seeks a technical fellow in artificial intelligence, with expertise in one or more of the following areas:Generative AILarge Language ModelsAI Assurance: trust, bias, security, robustnessComputer Vision and Machine PerceptionAI Policy and RegulationThe successful candidate will integrate across the enterprise and drive whole-of-nation approaches to advancing US economic, domestic, and national security. They will make significant technical contributions that help influence, execute, and scale MITRE's mission strategy of supporting and collaborating with the US government, academia, and industry partners, for enduring impact.MITRE's work program and strategic objectives vary across the target areas of expertise.MITRE is in the midst of a three-year corporate investment in AI, aligning our intramural R&D investments, academic partnerships, and work across our federal agency sponsors.Our strategy seeks to leverage a growing body of federally-funded R&D and prototyping efforts in AI to address broader economic and private sector concerns.The urgencies of these activities have hastened as large language models have made dramatic progress over the past year.The Technical Fellow will be expected to bring their background, expertise, and experience to make significant technical contributions to these major programs, driving successful mission impacts for the nation.Job Responsibilities:Serve as a subject matter expert and technical leader in areas of expertise, interacting with sponsors to identify and execute ways to meet sponsors' strategic goals.Be recognized and act as a thought leader, shaping activities of MITRE, government, and partner organizations.Be a significant technical contributor, drawing upon expertise and experience to perform high-quality, high-impact technical work resulting in products that solve sponsors' important problems.Conduct basic research, applied research, development, and engineering.Lead others in conducting R&D.As appropriate, publish scholarly results in peer-reviewed forums and pursue intellectual property protection for inventions.Work across existing MITRE programs, with the US government, academia, and industrial partners to drive new work in the development and adoption of solutions.Coordinate efforts internally and externally.Create external partnerships to further US government and MITRE goals.The candidate should have a desire to create new solutions, business models, and technologies.Utilize an extensive personal network across the government and industry organizations.Participate in relevant advisory committees and other formal and informal external activities that provide relevant advice to the government.Mentor mid-senior level technical staff to support their growth and retention in support of MITRE and it is sponsors.Serve as the Principal Investigator on both intramurally- and extramurally-funded research and development programs or similar sponsor funded role.Required Qualifications:Possess a strong technical background, relevant research experience, government policy, and effective communication and interpersonal skills.Demonstrated technical and research leadership in areas germane to MITRE's current and future work program, including relevant publications.Be recognized by technical societies and other relevant professional organizations.Maintain significant stature of citations in global citation tracking system across publications, patents, and other high quality cited materials.Eligibility for DoD secret clearance, and the ability to obtain and maintain top secret clearance.Possess an advanced degree in engineering, science, technology, or related field.Have experience with US government systems.Have the ability to work with customers to understand their use cases and formulate a path forward, requires excellent oral and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.Experience building consensus and partnerships across industry, academia, and customers to advance state of the art in embedded systems security and system design.Additional Information:Technical Fellows work on
