About this job At CarMax, a Senior Engineer, Artificial Intelligence is a technologist with domain-specific expertise in Generative AI, able to address advanced concepts and feature designs for hosting deep-learning models that generate content with processes and tools for testing, evaluating, and analyzing the AI system. As a member of the GenAI team, you will have a direct impact on improving the performance of our business through machine learning and Generative AI system implementations that drive CarMax's iconic omni-channel customer experience. Essential Responsibilities: Develop, evaluate, and deploy new capabilities for our customers utilizing Generative AI models like large language models (LLMs) and retrieval strategies such as semantic search frameworks Articulate potential challenges of implementing Generative AI applications to engineering teams and leadership and offer creative solutions by leveraging technical expertise and business experience Build highly integrated monitoring systems to continuously validate and influence the evolution of the AI architecture and secure performance integrity of generated content Assist in the development of other engineers using technical expertise, best practices and industry standards for Generative AI systems Ensure quality standards and clean code practices by peer reviewing code pull requests Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience Advanced Experience using large language models (LLMs) with semantic search frameworks for chatbot implementations 4+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: machine learning/artificial intelligence, cloud computing, systems engineering Advanced Knowledge developing and debugging in Python, and experience with scripting languages such as shell scripts Excellent communication skills, adapting to various audience types Ability to positively influence team norms, culture, and technical vision Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant field Experience developing, evaluating, and integrating continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) of prompt engineering with feedback loops for Generative AI applications Software Engineering Specific Qualifications and Requirements: Experience developing generative AI applications using Azure OpenAI Service Experience with information retrieval services such as Azure AI search Leveraging development tools to design prototyping, prompt engineering, testing, and evaluation of LLM-based applications (PromptFlow) Experience in DevOps practices, testing frameworks, and CI/CD Experience developing AI orchestration layers (Semantic Kernel) Managing the security, versioning, and observability across APIs In depth knowledge developing and debugging in Python Experience with scripting languages such as shell scripts   Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of one of the following locations and have a Hybrid work arrangement: Richmond, VA Technology Innovation Center Dallas, TX Technology Hub Atlanta, GA CarMax Auto Finance Office Work Authorization: Candidates must be legally authorized to work for any U.S. employer on a full-time basis.
