Facebook is hiring Privacy Policy Managers with expertise in privacy and technology policy issues to join our Privacy and Data Policy team and help us build products, services, and technologies that promote the best interests of our users. The team's mission is to develop privacy-protective and innovative approaches to data and our services that help bring the world closer together and improve people's lives. In this role, you'll help shape the company's approach to privacy across our suite of products and services. More specifically, this role will be in the part of our team that is focused on developing policy around artificial intelligence/AI, working to advise Facebook’s AI product and research teams on novel issues related to privacy and also broader questions of fairness, accountability and transparency related to AI and machine learning (ML). In this role, you'll work closely with product managers, engineers, external stakeholders, and cross-functional partners across the company to build privacy and fairness into our products and services. You'll serve as a subject matter expert for Facebook's global policy team on Facebook's products and work with our teams to evaluate and respond to legislative and regulatory developments, and to engage with external experts on privacy and fairness around the world. A strong candidate will be familiar with privacy and fairness policy issues related to AI/ML, and how they relate to social media platforms, messaging services, and other areas of Facebook’s business and research activities. You should be a self-starter, a team player, and a creative problem solver who is able to switch easily between detailed work and high-level strategic thinking. You should also have an understanding of and familiarity with the stakeholders and perspectives in the privacy community and be able to use your knowledge to promote privacy and fairness in Facebook's products and services, and drive improvements across the industry.
  • Evaluate and provide guidance on the privacy and fairness implications of products, services, features, and research
  • Work with developers, designers, lawyers, product managers, and others to help interdisciplinary teams build creative solutions to policy, legal, engineering, user interface, business, marketing and other privacy challenges
  • Serve as a representative of Facebook regarding privacy issues in external meetings and conferences
  • Analyze global legislative and regulatory proposals concerning AI, privacy, data security, fairness, and other technology issues
  • Consult with external privacy experts and other policy stakeholders on how best to ensure that Facebook handles data and builds products responsibly
  • Serve as a subject matter expert inside the company on how to manage issues related to responsible AI development, including working with the broader AI Policy team to track and provide guidance based on the latest developments in external technical and policy dialogues around AI
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of experience with privacy, data security, or technology policy issues (2+ years with advanced degree in relevant field)
  • Practical experience counseling, advising, or advocating around privacy, data security, or other technology policy issues
  • Experience prioritizing multiple projects under deadlines
  • JD or Master’s degree or equivalent
  • Experience working on technology law or policy in more than one of these three categories: (1) civil society or academia, (2) company or firm, or (3) government
  • Working familiarity with key privacy and AI policy stakeholders and experts from civil society, academia, and government
  • Experience working directly with senior business executives and/or high-ranking government officials
  • Familiarity with emerging legislative/regulatory approaches to AI/ML, large content platforms, and/or the application of civil rights law to technology products
