Thre preferred location for this posiition is Minnetonka, MN; telecommuters will also be considered.  You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within United States as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial, analytical, actuarial, statistical, programming, data management, visualization, and auditing expertise for a wide variety of projects

  • Independently design and code SAS programs to extract, aggregate, and statistically analyze data from various sources 

  • Manage work that is hands-on, project-oriented, self-directed, less structured, and complex

  • Design and build financial, statistical, and actuarial models

  • Leverage the full capabilities of statistics and Artificial Intelligence to provide insight, to identify value-creating opportunities, to create data-driven clinical, provider network, and product decision making tools, to define risk cohort groups and care interventions, to better understand patterns and risk, and to perform financial due-diligence

  • Work independently and collaboratively with internal customers to deliver technical solutions that add business value and yield actionable recommendations

  • Manipulate high-volume and high-dimensionality data from varying sources to identify patterns, anomalies, relationships, and trends

  • Drive communications with all key stakeholders

  • Improve and extend the analytic methods and capabilities of our current solutions, algorithms, and business processes

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, AI, statistics, biostatistics, economics, computer science, mathematics, physics, or similar quantitative discipline

  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) with the ambition and goal of attaining the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible actuarial experience including, but not limited to, pricing insurance risk; certifying and filing rates with insurance regulators; building, running, and interpreting models; and/or supporting risk-based provider contracting

  • 3+ years of hands-on computational problem-solving experience in a healthcare environment including extracting data from large relational databases; understanding medical codes; and working with structured and unstructured, claims, enrollment, and provider data 

  • 3+ years of SAS programming experience with demonstrated expertise in data manipulation, data visualization, statistical analysis, and financial model building

  • If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener. When in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are required to wear a mask in common areas. In addition, employees must comply with any state and local masking orders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s in AI, statistics, biostatistics, economics, physics, or similar quantitative field of study

  • Hands-on experience developing solutions using Artificial Intelligence and visualization techniques (clustering, CARTs, random forests, LDAs, simulation, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Neural Networks, text mining, NLP, etc.)

  • Hands-on experience working with electronic medical records, care pathways, clinical data, and patient-reported data

  • Fluency in other programming languages (Python, R, Scala, Java, etc.) and experience with multiple storage and integration technologies (RDBMS, DW, HDFS, NoSQL, Hive, etc.)

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $79,700 to $142,600.
